After the Civil War, Ralph traveled back and forth to Ft. Wayne, IN with his son, Ralph J. This is where he met his last wife, Abby Elizabeth Williams. He lived where the parking lot for the Allen Co. Library is now located. In 1872 he was deaf and blind (as a result of the Art'y Service, but just a guess) and living in the Elizabeth City County, VA veterans hospital (from the pension records (SC 143-864). He may have had children in the area.
